Caring during COVID-19

We know that during this time of uncertainty and anxiety, many things are going to be a struggle for everyone in our communities across Wigan.

It is in times like this that we rejoice at St Mark’s that we are part of Church Wigan, where together we can do more to help. There are a number of things that Church Wigan are providing as both practical and spiritual support.

Food outlets

Please note – both Food Outlets closed Wednesday 25th March – reopening Thursday 26th March and all times listed below.

Working closely alongside The Brick, Fur Clemt and Wigan Council, Church Wigan have two food outlets open over the coming weeks and months ahead.

  • Tom’s Pantry –  St James Centre Poolstock, (Church St, Poolstock, Wigan WN3 5DZ)

Open Monday to Friday  9:30am-11:30am

  • Outlet at St B’s – St Barnabas Church, (Marsh Green Road, Marsh Green, Wigan, WN5 0QR)

Open Monday -Saturday 2pm-4pm

We are also a satellite for The Brick Food Bank and have a limited number of food parcels available at St Barnabas Church, Marsh Green (complete an online referral form in order to collect a food parcel, our volunteers can help with this).

Keep Warm Packs

Church Wigan has a large number of Keep Warm Packs, courtesy of AWARM at Wigan Council, which we will be able to give away to anyone who;

• is struggling to keep warm

• has no heating

• is self isolating

For anyone who needs emergency food/hampers or ‘Keep Warm’ packs you can contact us on 01695 386650 (between 9:30am-6pm) or email us using the form below and we will help where we can.

If people are looking for help in getting their regular shopping or picking up prescriptions they can contact us on  01942 410910 and leave a short message and contact number and we will get back to them ASAP. Or alternatively they can email us using the form below and again we will help were we can.

Family Support & Resources

We also realise that the next few weeks are going to be especially difficult for families who are having to self isolate or for parents/grandparents/carers who are now unexpectedly having to look after and entertain children who will be predominately home-based for the foreseeable future.

We will regularly post resources on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ChurchWigan/ and we are currently producing some Collective Worship videos for schools.

‘Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.’ Philippians 4:6-7
